- 2 lb (1 kg) ground beef, 80/20 mixture
- Salt, pepper, garlic, and onion powder to taste
- 1 package slider buns – preferably Hawaiian rolls
- Butter
- 6 slices American cheese
- Favorite toppings
Optional toppings
- Pickles
- Bacon
- Onion
- Burger sauces
- lettuce
- Begin by preheating your griddle to high, aiming for at least 400°F (200°C) or higher. This ensures a good sear on the meat and perfectly toasted buns.
- Slice the Hawaiian rolls in half horizontally to create a singular, huge top and bottom bun. Generously spread butter on the cut sides of the buns to prepare them for toasting later. Set them aside.
- For the burger patty, take a quarter sheet tray (approximately the same size as the package of rolls) and line it with parchment paper to prevent sticking. Place your ground meat into the tray and firmly press it down to create an even, compact layer. Sprinkle the surface of the meat generously with salt, freshly cracked black pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder to season it well. Lay another sheet of parchment paper over the seasoned meat and use a second tray to press down firmly, ensuring the patty is evenly flattened and uniform in thickness.
- Carefully remove the top layer of parchment paper and invert the sheet tray onto the preheated griddle, so the meat is directly in contact with the hot surface. Slowly and cautiously lift the tray and peel away the remaining parchment paper to leave the large, even patty on the griddle.
- Allow the meat to cook undisturbed for about 3 to 4 minutes until a flavorful crust forms on the bottom. When it’s time to flip, a large pizza spatula or similar tool can make this process easier and prevent breakage. Once flipped, immediately top the burger patty with slices of cheese. Let the meat continue cooking for another 3 to 4 minutes until the cheese is melted, and the patty is fully cooked.
- After flipping the burger, place the prepared bun halves, buttered side down, onto the griddle to toast. Keep an eye on them and cook until the insides turn golden brown. Remove the buns from the griddle and set them on a clean surface. Begin assembling the sliders by layering your favorite toppings—such as lettuce, tomato slices, pickles, or condiments—onto the bottom halves of the buns. For the best bite in every slider, make sure your toppings cover the bun entirely, reaching edge to edge.
- When the burger patty is done cooking, carefully lift it off the griddle, allowing any excess grease to drip away. Gently place the patty onto the prepared bottom buns. Place the top buns over the cheese-topped burger to complete the sliders.
- Using a sharp knife, cut the sliders into 12 evenly sized portions by slicing between the buns. Serve immediately and enjoy these flavorful, cheesy beef sliders while they’re hot!
- Pair this with a cabernet franc, or Sangiovese. Or try this with a beer pairing like a pilsner, amber ale, or an IPA.
